NYSC (RSC) ACTIVITIES NATIONWIDE The NYSC (RSC) is an arm of the Federal Road Safety Commission which derives its functional powers from the FRSC Establishment Act 2007 with the following responsibilities among others. Educating motorist and members of the public on the importance of discipline on the highways
It is a CD programme for Youth Corpers during their one year service and a partnership between the FRSC and NYSC. Over the years, corpers have participated, contributed and developed a passion for promoting road safety ideals. Many have gone on to become Special Marshals or joined the Commission as regular marshals. Over the years, they have participated in various activities during the one year. The batch ‘A’ and ‘B’ of NYSC RSC member have carried out a lot of activities. The batch ‘A’ recently passed out on the 26 th of February, 2009. ZONE RS1 This Command is made up of four Sectoral Commands namely; Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa with its headquarters in Kaduna. Within the period under review, the Commands carried out the following activities: RS1.1 donated some medical materials to Road Traffic crash victims at the Army hospital and St. Gerard hospital, Kaduna. RS1.22 organized lectures on “The Use of Seatbelt” and “Defensive Driving” at Government Science Secondary School and Rumfa College, Sherada – Kano. RS1.32 constructed a Zebra – crossing and First Aid/Rescue equipment: RS2: This Zonal Command is made up of Lagos and Ogun Sectors with Lagos been the Headquarters with component Unit Commands. Their activities ranged from sand filling of the office, construction of billboards by RS2.11 RS2.2 carried out renovation of the office gate and construction of three (3) traffic stands. Others are Zebra crossing, road markings, sign posts, gift to crash victims and quiz competition among schools. RS3: The Commands under this Zone are Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba Sector Commands with Adamawa being the headquarter. The Commands activities are thus: RS3.13 carried out PE activities, with drama sketches during the PE RS3.14 Constructed traffic signs. RS3.3 constructed a Bus-Stop, 2-Room roadside clinic and erection of solar street lights. RS4: The Zone is made up of Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa Sector Commands with Plateau being the Zonal Headquarters. Their activities include the construction of Zebra crossing, traffic stand and induction of members of NYSC RSC. With the headquarters at Gwagwalada, the Zone is made up of FCT and Niger State Sector Commands and their component Unit Commands. Their activities ranged from organizing Road Safety week; Visit to National Hospital; Zebra crossing; Debate; Artwork; Essay and Quiz competition with FCT Command. Others are construction of two (2) Bus-Stops, and youth rally. RS7.2 carried out repairs of culverts at the office premises, drama/song presentation, Zebra crossing and lectures on Road Safety. RS8: The Command is made up of Kwara, Ekiti and Kogi Sector Commands with Kwara being the Headquarters. Their activities include construction of traffic control post, Easter rally, playlet during Global Road Safety week and Zebra crossing. Others are Rally, Safety books on “Crash Helmet” and donation of Hospital equipment. RS9: The Sector Commands under the Zone are Enugu, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi and their component Commands with Enugu as the headquarters. Their various activities include Construction of Cautionary billboards, Bus stop, traffic sign and traffic stands. RS10: The Command is made up of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara Sector Commands with headquarters at Sokoto. Their activities include the construction of Road furniture, Zebra crossing and PE activities. RS11: This Zone is made up of Osun, Oyo and Ondo Sector Commands with headquarters at Osun. Their activities include the construction of road traffic signs, Traffic control stand, Zebra Crossing, donation of First Aid box, Generator and Road Signs. Others are printing of RSC Magazine, construction of speed breakers and donation of chairs. They also assist to setup RSC in Primary and Secondary schools. RS12: The Zone is made up of Bauchi, Borno and Yobe Sector Commands. Their activities covers from construction of sign post, Zebra crossing, Bus-stop, while also conducting PE/Awareness rally and publishing of a Road Safety Magazine.
