FRSC TO CHECK ARBITRARY USE OF NUMBER PLATES
Disturbed by the spate of increase in the violation of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme, the Federal Road Safety Commission has concluded plans for a nationwide clamp down on erring vehicles owners.
According to the Commission, this measure has become necessary due to the arbitrary use of State Government, House of Assembly and Local Government official number plates on private vehicles in addition to the concealment of such number plates with polythene for frivolous reasons.
Furthermore, the FRSC wishes to express its dismay to this unpleasant trend which is a direct violation of Section 10 of the FRSC Act, (2007) and Section 19-21 of the National Road Traffic Regulations (2004) with consequential security implications.
Consequently, Commanding Officer of the FRSC have been mandated to commence full enforcement to impound vehicles and confiscate such number plates and ensure payment of appropriate fines by offending vehicle owners.
Similarly, the Federal Road Commission wishes to solicit the co-operation of various State and Local Government to checkmate the arbitrary use of number plates in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
