CORPS MARSHAL VISITS OGUN & LAGOS STATES
No fewer than 380 persons were killed and 851 others left with serious injuries in 639 cases of road traffic accidents which occurred in Ogun State between the months of January and June this year.
This revelation was made public by the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission Mr. Osita Chidoka during a courtesy visit on the Government of Ogun State, Otunba Genga Daniel, in continuation of nationwide tour of FRSC formations.
Responding, the state governor, Otunba Daniel harped on the need to step up Traffic Laws Enforcement in the state which is often jeopardized by lack of logistics.
He further stated that the state government has set up task force comprising the FRSC, police and the Traffic Control and Enforcement Agency to boost Road Traffic Management in Ogun State and pledged to collaborate with the FRSC in stemming the tide of carnage in the State.
According to the Corps Marsha; this unpleasant trend in road traffic Management and the influx of vehicles into the Gateway State underscores the need for a strategic partnership between the Commission and Ogun State Government.
Speaking further, the Corps Marshal reiterated the resolve of the FRSC Management to restore the integrity of Nigerian drivers by ensuring sanity in processing and issuance of driver’s license one in-we are trying to connect our driver’s license to the data base.
In a related development, the Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola stated that his administration will focus more on safety education in order to have better and informed road users in the State.
Governor Fashola made this remark while receiving the Corps Marshal at the Alausa Government House, Lagos. He added that his government has already concluded plans to procure 10 more mobile intensive care unit which have oxygen and the inauguration of a driver’s training institute.
At the Lagos and Abeokuta Sector and Unit Commands, the Corps Marshal charged Officers and men of the Commission to remain consistence in discharging their statutory functions in order to preserve the sanctity of human life.
He also took cognizance of the place of proper motivation of Staff in order to elicit improved service delivery adding that priority attention would be placed on staff welfare, promotion and capacity utilization.
However, the Corps Marshal also reiterated the FRSC Management zero tolerance to corruption and indiscipline.
Meanwhile, the Corps Marshal also inspected the FRSC Sahgamu Road side accident clinic, the uniform licensing scheme plant, in addition to advocacy visit to some media organizations in Lagos during the tour.
