FRSC TO IMPOUND PRIVATE VEHICLES WITH GOVERNMENT NUMBER PLATES
All persons using Federal Government number plates for their private vehicles will henceforth face arrests, while such vehicles will be impounded by the Federal Road Safety Commission.
The Commission has concluded plans to embark on a nationwide operation targeted at such vehicles.
This has become necessary due to the rampant abuse of Federal Government number plates by individuals, particularly those who benefited from the sale of government vehicles in the monetization exercise.
The Commission’s concern is further heightened by the report of the General Security Appraisal Committee (GSAC) of the Presidency which expressed its concern over the security implications of this illegal practice and urged for measures to curb the practice.
It is on record that the FRSC has repeatedly in the past advised all beneficiaries of the sale of government vehicles to return the government number plates to the appropriate authorities and to have such vehicles re-registered in their appropriate category (i.e. private or commercial).
The Commission once more advises all Transport Officers of Federal Government Ministries to withdraw, as a matter of urgency, the government number plates from all vehicles sold to individuals.
All other vehicle owners are also advised to properly register their vehicles as the Commission is poised to mete out the maximum traffic penalties on fake and improper registration of vehicles.
