TRAFFIC ALERT

As the rainy season gradually gets to climax, Management of the Federal Road Safety Commission has reiterated its appeal to the Nigerian motoring public to ensure strict compliance with road safety standard.

In view of this development, motorists are hereby advised to be safety conscious while plying the nation’s highways and to avoid safety vices such as over speeding, drunk driving, over loading, use of mobile phone and non-compliance with the directive on seat belt usage.

In the same vein, vehicle owners should ensure proper functioning of their wipers, light and brake system, windscreen, tyres and effective maintenance of such vehicles.

Furthermore, our strong appeal to all drivers is to avoid driving in the rains due to inherent traffic hazards and if possible, maintain a 60 meter breaking distance with other vehicles in view of the slippery nature of the roads during the rains.

In a related development, the Commission has identified some black spots (accident-prone areas) on various routes along the nation’s highways.

The motoring public is hereby warned to observe strict caution while  plying such locations in order to reduce the spate of avoidable road carnage.

Specific note should be taken of the uneven one kilometer road surface elongation at the Shagamu interchange along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway.  There is also the absence of hard shoulders along some highways.

At about twenty-five kilometers in the Yola-Numan road, exist deep holes, just as 10 kilometres from Akwanga – Lafia routes, the ‘many have gone’ area, boasts of hilly and sharp bends.

The Bode Sa’du – Jebba highway has many sharp bends even as a narrow bridge is located along the Lokoja – Ajaokuta road, before/after First Atlantic Bank.

Similarly, the Benin-Ore expressway as well as the Abaji-Abuja highway, also have dangerous triangular intersections.

As the Commission is  poised for its ‘Ember’ months safety awareness campaigns, Management of the FRSC wishes to reiterate its preparedness to ensure sanity on our highways.  Always drive to stay alive.
