FRSC to partner MDS on safety
To regulate and sanitise commercial road transport operations the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), has decided to partner with one of the foremost third party logistics company, MDS Logistics
.
Speaking in Abuja at the inauguration of 26 new Special Marshals of the MDS logistics unit, the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Mr Osita Chidoka, disclosed that the partnership is to build a strong information technology-based system that can help strengthen the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme, (RTSSS).
Chidoka, who had visited the Abuja facility of the logistics company to inaugurate the MDS unit of the Special Marshals, said the FRSC was aware that MDS Logistics runs a complex logistics business which is IT driven. The commission, he added, would like to leverage on MDS systems to make the RTSSS a strong IT-based operation.
He admitted that the logistics service company’s ability would help FRSC track all vehicles in its fleet nationwide through a satellite enabled Information Technology system.
"We can leverage on a system to build a system that can make it easy for us to monitor and track transport activities in the country," Chidoka said.
The out-going Divisional Managing Director MDS Logistics, Hakeem Ogunniran, said MDS’ dream of promoting safety on the roads through collaboration with organisations such as FRSC was finally coming to fruition.
Ogunniran added that as a leading logistics service provider with a large vehicle fleet that is constantly on the roads, MDS Logistics takes paramount interest in helping to keep Nigerian roads safer.
He affirmed that the modest efforts of the company in sponsoring its unit of the special Marshal scheme will contribute positively towards improving safety on the roads.
Ogunniran reiterated that the action was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts, which was in line with the philosophy of UAC Nigeria Plc, MDS’ parent company.
"We can document all the vehicles we have in our data base and be able to retrieve it easily, measure and track the activities of every company in compliance with the RTSSS," he said.
