MOTORIST CRUSHES MOTORCYCLIST AT KUBWA A 32 year old motorcyclist was crushed to death by a motorist at the Gbazango junction along the Kubwa expressway. The motorcyclist, Baba Stephen, was coming from Gbazango when the accident happened. An eye witness said that the motorcyclist crossed the road without slowing down, which made the car which was coming on top speed to crush him. The body of the cyclist was quickly taken of the road by the police. A motorcyclist who witnessed the accident said, that the cyclist was crushed by a Toyota Corolla car with registration number AG142RSH. He said the cyclist’s helmet flew from his head before he hit the ground, adding that the Police from Kubwa Police Station later came to carry the corpse to the Kubwa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Divisional Traffic Officer of Kubwa Police command, James Ojia, said the cyclist family was contacted through the deceased’s personal mobile phone, adding that the family has since come to claim his remains. According to him, the suspect has been remanded at the Kubwa Divisional Police Station and his car impounded, until the police concludes its investigation. He warned motorists and motorcyclists to respect traffic regulations and always ensure that they reduce speed while approaching junctions. The Divisional Traffic Officer also advised that motorcyclists should make sure that they wear their helmets properly as ordered by the Federal Road Safety Commission. To him, this is because, if the late motorcyclist had worn the helmet properly, it would have prevented his head from the injury as well as saved his life. He appealed to members of the public to assist the police in conveying accident victims to the hospital, saying doing so can save many lives. |
