IGP AND CORPS MARSHAL ALERT THE PUBLIC ON THE MENACE OF CONVOY DRIVERS The Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo and the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osita Chidoka have alerted the public on the menace of convoy drivers, especially during this period of Christmas celebration. A joint statement issued by the heads of the two paramilitary bodies stated: “Our attention has been drawn to the menace of convoy drivers whose activities have become a source of concern to the authorities, as they cause road obstructions, traffic hold up and lane indiscipline, especially at this period of increased traffic movement, thereby causing untold hardships to the motoring public”. “To this end, we have set up monitoring teams to carefully evaluate the driving behaviours of convoy drivers; and whoever is found to have contravened the rule would be summarily tried in accordance with the service rules and meted with appropriate punishment”, the statement further said. They called on all law enforcement officers travelling in the convoy, especially the “Aide camps (ADCs) to top government officials to consciously monitor the speed limit of the vehicles they travel in and avoid any act capable of compromising traffic rules and regulations”. They further warned that “such officers would be held liable in the event of any contravention by their vehicles”. Accordingly, members of the public have been enjoined to copy the number of any offending convoy vehicle and report to the office of the Inspector General of Police with details of the vehicles, while such information should equally be forwarded to FRSC through its call centre No:0700-2255-3772 for immediate action, the statement added.
