FRSC TO ESTABLISH HELP DESKS IN CHURCHES-RANKS BEST IN 2010 SERVICOM EVALUATION

Further to its renewed  determination to provide emotional succor for victims of road traffic crash and  affected relations, the Federal Road Safety Corps has initiated plans to offer rehabilitation to road crash victims and relations through the establishment of help desks in churches across the country.

Making this revelation while receiving the National President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafo, the FRSC Corps Marshal and Chief executive, Osita Chidoka identified trauma as a worrisome aspect of road traffic crash experience which often leaves indelible and negative scar on the memory of victims and relations, adding that spiritual counseling will provide the required antidote for the emotional transformation of such persons.

Similarly, the Corps Marshal stated that an extensive partnership programme will be created in collaboration  with the Christian Association of Nigeria to erect appropriate road signs, Zebra crossings and speed breakers around church premises to ensure safer road use.

In addition, he also stated that the FRSC will further enshrine road safety tips in Sunday school curriculum as part of measures to take child safety education to churches in line with an on-going incorporation of road safety education in school curriculum across the country.

Earlier in his remark, the President of Christian Association of Nigeria commended the FRSC remarkable feat in Information and Communication Technology through a Call Centre, data centre, on-line traffic offenders database, e-verification of driver’s license and other innovations which has effectively repositioned the nation’s drive towards ensuring safer road usage

Pastor Oritsejafo however decried the spate of apathy among  road users on road safety issues and urged the Corps to re-double its advocacy efforts on safety consciousness in Nigeria in order to entrench an enduring and safer road culture in the country.

In a related development, the Federal Road Safety Corps has been rated best among other Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the latest ranking emanating from annual evaluation by the  SERVICOM  Unit from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
