Federal Ministry of Health to partner FRSC on road crash victims
The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, says the ministry will collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) as part of efforts to save the lives of road accident victims.
Chukwu gave the assurance on Saturday in Abuja, while speaking as special guest at the FRSC’s November edition of walking and jogging.
The Minister who was represented by Mr Babajide Coker, the National Coordinator, Malaria Control Programme in the ministry, stressed the need for concerted efforts to save road accident victims.
Also speaking, Mr Osita Chidoka, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the FRSC, emphasised the imperative of collaboration between the ministry and the FRSC in view of the health dimension to road accident victims.
Before presenting prizes to winners of the 8 kilo metre marathon, the National co-ordinator of the Nigerian Road Safety Partnership which sponsored the marathon, Mrs. Ene Wabotem from Shell Petroleum Nigeria Limited stated that marathon was organized to draw public consciousness for victims of road crashes, in line with the United Nations resolutions in 2006 at Geneva.
According to her, the Road Safety Partnership has developed a sustainable road map to educate Nigerians on road safety consciousness through funding of seminars, conferences and other related projects to enthrone best safety practises in Nigeria.
Mr Dongoyaro Enoch of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) took first position and went home with a 32-inch plasma television while Mr A.O. Adeogun of the Federal Fire Service (FS) and Gabriel John, a student of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, who finished 2nd and 3rd, also left the occasion with a home theatre and a generating set, respectively.
