FCT MINISTER RE-ASSURES ON INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Senator Adamu Aliero has reiterated the resolve of his administration to continue in its drive towards improving existing infrastructures as well as constructing new ones with a view to making the FCT habitable and safer for transportation of people, goods and services. Speaking through his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mr. Attan Nwakibu at the formal presentation of Special Marshals’ new regalia in Abuja, Senator Aliero Commended the dedication and selfless service of the Special Marshals whose voluntary functions has effectively complemented the statutory mandate of the FRSC to ensure safer roads and fuller lives for the Nigerian motoring public. Also speaking, the FRSC Board Chairman, Col. Lawan Gwadabe (rtd) identified road literacy and attitudinal factors as major challenges which the Comission has been constantly addressing with the collaboration of Special Marshals to instill a safe driving culture among road users adding that the new Kit will no doubt, trigger off a renewed commitment towards changing the road habits of all categories of motorists towards a better road culture. In his presentation, the FRSC Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka described the Special Marshals as the Volunteer Arm of the Commission whose present number of 3,000 nationwide, has been an effective mechanism towards mitigating the occurrence of road traffic crashes on the nation’s highways. The Corps Marshal further disclosed that a detailed data base has been created for the Special Marshals, in addition to new identity cards with members’ biometrics, widened scope of Insurance Scheme and the updating of Special Marshals on International Standard Organization, ISO-9000 to acquaint them with contemporary skills in line with global trends, for effective and efficient performance. He also disclosed that the new Special Marshals Kit has been designed to include state of the art safety features and patented with the relevance authorities to protect it from copyright and abuse. |
