FRSC IS COMING UP WITH AUDACIOUS PLANS FOR 2010 EMBER MONTHS CAMPAIGN, SAYS CORPS MARSHAL
In his determination to curb the incidences of pervasive road crash and obstruction during Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osita Chidoka said the Corps is coming up with audacious plans that would make the 2010 ember months campaign different from the past exercises.
Chidoka who disclosed this while answering reporters’ questions at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stressed that the Corps will deploy adequate resources to ensure that “the roads were crash and obstruction-free during the period”.
According to him, “this year’s exercise is being carefully planned to make it one of the best organised through collaboration with relevant stakeholders and adequate deployment of personnel and logistics”.
“When we launched the campaign in 2007, we were overwhelmed with the successes recorded across the country which Nigerians who travelled within the period applauded”.
“We have sustained this over the years, and this year, we are coming up with compressive operational plans that will surpass our past records in line with our zero tolerance for road crashes”, he said.
Speaking further on his vision for FRSC, the Corps Marshal said: “We are aiming at becoming a world class organisation with capacity to reduce road traffic crashes in the country to 50% by 2015 in accordance with Accra Declaration and making Nigerian roads one of the 20 safest in the world by 2010, as envisioned in the nation’s 2020:20 development plans”, he further submitted.
The Managing Director of NAN, Mrs Remi Oyo who had earlier taken the Corps Marshal and his Management team on the facility tour of the Agency, was full of commendation for him for the visionary leadership he has displayed in managing the affairs of the Corps. According to her, she was excited with what is happening at FRSC and will therefore support the vision to make it realisable through reduction of road traffic crashes in the country.
“We are excited by the commitment you are showing in managing FRSC, especially with the use of ICT in your operations. Let me state that we are impressed with the rare feat that you have achieved so far; and I must commend you for this”.
“We can see what has happened under your Management and I want to say it again that we will support your organisation to be able to realise its vision, especially through dissemination of report of road crashes promptly and accurately”, she further stated.
The Corps Marshal was accompanied on the visit by members of FRSC Management team who were on facility tour of the Agency. They were taken round the various operational areas of the Agency, before the two sides settled down for discussion which was centred on areas of mutual interest, use of ICT for effective dissemination of road crash reports and capacity building for the personnel for qualitative service delivery to the people.
