DRIVER KILLS FIVE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS
Five construction workers from Julius Berger Nigeria PLC were in the early hours of today, crushed to death along the Minister’s Hill, Maitama in Abuja by a driver, Sani Abdullahi who lost control of his vehicle before crashing into a Julius Berger Construction Site.
According to an eye witness, Mr. Pius Okafor who is an excavator on the construction site, six Berger workers were laying blocks by the side of the road when an ash coloured Peugeot 406 vehicle with registration number FY35ABC suddenly ran into the workers killing five instantly with one seriously injured.
Further information gathered from the road crash scene indicate that the driver was making a phone call and accelerating on a high speed before losing control of his vehicle.
A team of FRSC rescue team rushed to the scene to evacuate the accidented vehicle, which somersaulted after hitting the construction workers. An Ambulance belonging to Julius Berger conveyed the Corpses to the Julius Berger Clinic at Life Camp while another ambulance belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) took the injured driver to Maitama General Hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile the Federal Road Safety Corps has stepped up special patrol since last week in the Federal Capital Territory and its environs to address the growing trend of cell phone usage by Motorists in the FCT.
Pursuant to this arrangement, Mobile courts will be established for prompt trial of offenders even as the general motoring public is hereby advised to contact FRSC emergency number 0700-22553772 to report any Road Traffic Crash and Motorists violating the rule and use of mobile phone.
