MAN IN COURT FOR CAUSING ACCIDENT.

A middle aged man, Ibrahim Isa was allegedly arraigned before an Abuja magistrate court for reckless driving and causing a serious accident.

Prosecutor Jeremiah Elijah informed the court that the accused drove his Peugeot J5 bus with registration number XA260BBJ in a careless and inconsiderate manner, leading to an accident between his bus and a Toyota corolla with registration number AH579LSR.

He said the accused while driving noticed a pothole in the lane he was driving and swerved to the other lane without giving any consideration to the car on the other lane. According to the prosecutor, the driver of the Toyota car and three occupants of the J5 bus sustained serious injuries. He disclosed further that the injured persons are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals, adding that the offence committed by the accused is punishable under section (1) Cap 548 of the Road Traffic Act.

Magistrate Hafsat Soso granted the accused person bail in like sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum that must reside within the courts jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit to produce in court on the adjourned date.

The case was adjourned to 11 th May 2009 for hearing.
