ARMY CHIEF FROWNS AT USE OF IDENTITY CARDS BY UNIFORMED MEN AS DRIVERS’ LICENSE Worried by the practise among some uniformed personnel who use their identity cards in lieu of drivers’ license while plying the nation’s highways, the Chief of Army Staff , Lt.General Abdulrahaman Dambazzau has charged the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure immediate arrest and prosecution such Officers. Giving this charge during a courtesy visit by the FRSC Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka, the Chief of Army Staff harped on the need for uniformed personnel to be vanguards of discipline on road traffic rules and regulations by plying the highways with drivers’ licenses which remains the acceptable documents that validates the use of a vehicle by any driver. Lt. Gen. Dambazzau also observed that traffic challenges in Nigeria are quite enormous and urged the FRSC to redouble its efforts in ensuring safer roads. He further identified public enlightenment campaigns as veritable link towards entrenching sanity on Nigerian highways. Speaking earlier, the FRSC Corps Marshal recalled that the Nigerian Army has remained an exemplary institution on road safety compliance as evidenced on the compulsory use of safety helmet at all Army barracks and other formations across the country adding that the consistent support received from the Army on road safety is a strong element for strengthening democratic ideals in Nigeria. The Corps Marshal also reiterated the need for uniformed personnel on convoys of public officers to strictly conform with traffic rules and regulations bothering on speed limit and reckless driving. He further solicited the partnership of the Nigerian Army in capacity building programmes for Officers and Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
