RE: ARMED ROBBERY INCIDENT ALONG BENIN- LAGOS EXPRESS WAY
The attention of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been drawn to the Senate debate on an armed robbery case that reportedly occurred along Benin- Lagos Express way on Tuesday, 25 February 2010.
The Federal Road Safety Corps wishes to inform the public that no such incident was recorded by FRSC Patrol teams neither was such reported to FRSC recently.
The only incident resembling the one discussed by the Senate, was the one that occurred on 1st August 2009 along Shagamu – Ijebu-Ode road by Backcock University junction in Ogun State at about 10:30pm. It was a case of an armed robbery attack on a ‘Young Shall Grow’ Luxury Bus with registration number XF285AKD.
According to report, while the passengers were being robbed, they were ordered to lie down on the road by the robbers. Incidentally, an oncoming Scania truck with registration number XN 808 BEN ran into them, killing 19 passengers, injuring two while three were rescued unhurt.
The corpses were deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Shagamu and the injured were also treated at the same hospital.
Agencies involved in the rescue operations were the FRSC, Police and Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
