DIRECTORATE OF ROAD TRAFFIC SERVICES (VIO SET TO STOP ILLEGAL PARKING IN WORSHIP PLACES IN ABUJA

The Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO) in Abuja is ready to stop illegal parking in places of worship in the Federal capital territory, a statement from the agency has hinted.

The statement noted that worshiping God does not mean one should deprive other citizens of their right of way. According to the agency, traders who display wares on the roads, blocking parking spaces for motorists will also not be spared.

The Director of the DRTS in FCT Mallam Adamu Argungu was quoted as saying that the exercise will start on Friday, 26 th September 2008 at the National Mosque while the Holy Trinity Church in Maitama comes after that. He noted that efforts have been made in the past by the Directorate to ensure that worshipers maintain law and order by the use of the “on the street” parking facility through leaders of these places of worship to appeal to their members on the need to park properly.
