RE: FRSC’S QUESTIONABLE INTERNET RECRUITMENT- A REJOINDER
Our attention has been drawn to an article published on page 13 of the Daily Trust Newspaper of 21 st April, 2008 by one Hassan Abdullahi titled “FRSC’S Questionable Internet Recruitment”.
Much as the Management of Federal Road Safety Commission embraces constructive criticism as a measure for public assessment and drive towards desired accountability and improved service delivery, it must be stated that the said publication was laced with ill-conceived and fallacious opinion capable of endangering institutional stability.
The FRSC however wishes to put issues bordering on the on-line recruitment, in proper perspective.
The use of internet advertisement to complement Newspaper publications is in tandem with contemporary practices in the use of Information Technology (IT) to address obvious chaos usually associated with physical sale of job application forms.
The display of crass ignorance and prejudice by the obvious hack writer hiding under a pseudonym is very embarrassing considering that most government organizations are currently using IT service providers for their online activities. JAMB Online, WAEC online, Army Online Recruitment and E-Passport are all driven by private IT companies providing the service that above named organizations utilize for public good. FRSC like JAMB or WAEC is not an IT provider and have no intention in investing in the hard and software required to provide online services. We are subscribers to the services provided by Cvbanc Nigeria Limited the service providers for the ongoing recruitment exercise.
Cvbanc Nigeria Limited is a reputable graduate recruitment databank to which most blue-chip companies, State Governments and Federal Government Parastatals subscribe and use as reliable and effective one-stop-shop for their recruitment needs. Worthy of mention is that Cvbanc Nigeria limited databank has provided a platform for the teeming graduate applicants to interact with employers through an all year round monitoring of curriculum vitae and photographs of prospective applicants on their database.
Aside from addressing challenges of modern recruitment exercises, the on-line strategy ensures that all prospective applicants have equal opportunity irrespective of their locations and provides a screening platform for employers.
Permit me to add that our feelers indicate that many Nigerian graduates have successfully logged onto the www.frsc.gov.ng under the management and co-ordination of Cvbanc Nigeria Limited.
Let me at this juncture, state categorically that the FRSC Management in its quest to build a modern and effective organization would go above the call of duty to ensure that the majority of young Nigerians without access to “notes” or “sponsors” have equal opportunity in the on-going recruitment drive.
Please note also that the Commission has not compiled any lists to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for compulsory retirement of any staff as alleged by the writer, whose goal is to incite the workforce and distract the management from its set goal of recovering lost grounds and repositioning the Corps.
It is imperative to state that Daily Trust Newspapers have remained consistent over the years in setting enviable standards in journalism. This has been possible through your incisive, in-depth and objective reportage of national issues. Therefore, the use of your pages for malicious and sponsored negative publication is a total deviation from this commendable feat.
It is expected of you to seek confirmation of any information at your disposal for fairness and balanced reporting before going to press. Hiding under the veil of opinion pages would not discharge the editors from duty of diligence.
Truth and objectivity remain the hallmarks of effective and developmental journalism.
We rely on your reputable organization as a dependable ally to positively project the Commission’s policies and programs geared towards achieving an enduring culture of disciplined road use in Nigeria.
