CHIDOKA ADDRESSES INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE SAFETY
As a fall-out of the International Conference on Road Safety organized earlier in the year to mark the 20 th Anniversary of the Federal Road Safety Commission, the FRSC Corps Marshal & Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka is billed to address an International Conference on Road Infrastructure Safety in London from 3-4 July, 2008.
The Conference which is being organized as a Prelude to the 2009 United Nations Ministerial Conference on Global Road Safety holding in Russia has as its theme ‘Making Roads Safe’.
The Conference is jointly organized by the Commission for Global Road Safety, World Bank Global Road Safety Facility, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the FIA Foundation for Automobile and Safety.
According to the Conference organizers, road infrastructure has been identified as key component of an effective strategy towards reducing the global trend of road crashes and fatalities, hence Infrastructure Safety Design, Rating and Assessment will be major areas of focus during the conference.
The Corps Marshal who will be presenting an opening speech and a technical paper on “The Role of Safe Infrastructure in Promoting Road Safety” will use the conference as platform to further push the road safety experience in Africa to the front burner of global consciousness as part of a holistic approach towards projecting the resolutions at the February, 2008 International Conference on Road Safety tagged “The Abuja Master Plan”.
During the conference, paper presentations will be made by other prominent international personalities such as His Royal Highness, Prince Michael of Kent, the Chairman Commission for Global Road Safety, Lord Robertson of Port Ellen and Brigita Schmognerova, the Vice President, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Ministers and Chef Executives of Road Transport Agencies from the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Russia, Tanzania and Sweden will also be in attendance, among other dignitaries.
The Corps Marshal has also been invited to the Pre-conferenceDinner at the table of His Royal Highness, Prince Michael of Kent.
